15 Free Spring Things to do around CT

One of the joys of living in New England is the seasons.  Since Spring is upon us, I wanted to share with you some FREE events to enjoy this particular season.

  • Self-Image/Elected Artists Show – Mystic Arts Center in Mystic opens Thursday, April 5th from 5:30 to 1pm.  Exhibit will feature traditional and non-traditional works and exhibit will be open until May.
  • Spring Migration Bird Walks – Audubon Greenwich in Greenwich every Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7am starting Saturday, April 7th through Saturday, May 26th. Bring binoculars and/or camera.  Some loaner binoculars may be available.
  • April Exhibit at the Geary Gallery – Geary Gallery in Darien on Wednesday, April 4th to Saturday, April 28th from 9:30am to 5pm.  Open Wednesdays to Saturdays. Featuring “Great Escapes – Paintings of the City, Land and Sea”
  • Greenwich Annual Kite Flying Festival – Greenwich Point in Greenwich on Saturday, April 14th at 11am.  Feel free to bring a kite of any shape or size made of paper, plastic or fabric.
  • Annual Cherry Blossom Festival – Wooster Square in New Haven on Sunday, April 15th from noon to 5pm. There will be music, food and kids activities.

  • Norwalk Spring Craft Festival – main ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel in Norwalk on April 22nd from 11am to 5pm.
  • 5th Annual Kite Fly – Walnut Beach in Milford on Saturday, April 28th from 12pm to 3pm. Bring your favorite kite or just come to watch the show.
  • Mini Maker Faire – inside Westport Library and on Jesup Green in Westport on Saturday, April 28th from 10am to 4pm.  Family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Meriden Daffodil Festival – Hubbard Park in Meriden running Saturday, April 28th to Sunday, April 29th.  There will be food, crafts, music, fireworks and amusements.
  • Connecticut Sheep, Wool and Fiber Festival – Tolland Agricultural Center in Vernon, CT on Saturday, April 28th from 9am to 5pm. Demonstrations, crafts, music, animals, food.  Parking $5 per car, but free admission.
  • North Mianus PTA Pow Wow Carnival – North Mianus School in Greenwich on Friday, May 4th from 4-m to 10pm and Saturday, May 5th from 12pm to 10pm. First big carnival to kick-off spring with amusement rides, live music, games and carnival food.
  • Milford Harbor Duck Race – Fowler Pavilion in Milford on Sunday, May 6th from 11am to 4pm.  Event will include food and family entertainment.
  • 77th Annual Dogwood Festival – Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield on Friday, May 11th to Sunday, May 13th.  Offers a range of entertainment.
  • Meriden Family Fun Day – Hubbard Park in Meriden on Saturday, May 19th from 9am to 2pm.  Feature family fun walk, entertainment, kids activities, food, crafts and vendors.
  • Music Haven Summer Performance Party – in New Haven on Friday, June 1st from 6pm – 8pm.  Celebrating the accomplishments of their 56 students with performances from the Haven String Quartet, Music Haven student soloists and ensembles.  Concert followed by a potluck reception.  Please bring a dish to share.
